THINKING
The philosophy that inspires the way in which we work with people is not geared towards the clear-cut and the uniform, but towards the ways in which people can contribute to the organisation based on their differences. This implies that we possess experience and expertise in situations whereby people’s differences are confronted with each other. In organisations, the tendency is usually to avoid conflict for various and understandable reasons. Often, there are also hierarchical reflexes and habits that cause people to tend to avoid difficulties and differences of opinion rather than engaging with them. In this context, Diversity bvba assumes an active role, because it is often these deep-seated conventions and habits that cause stagnation or blockage in the functioning of people and teams.
A few of the principles applied here are:
- The importance of NOT personalising conflicts: ‘Play the ball, not the man’.
- Providing guidance to those involved for analysing the roots of a conflict and/ or difference of opinion.
- The exploration of the history of a misunderstanding at the micro, meso and macro level.
- Stimulating:
- A self-critical attitude
- The correct use of communication platforms
- Formulating personal judgments
